Agri-Business Council Announces Significant Increase in Group Workers’
Compensation Program
6/24/2008
Group Rating and Safety Programs Continue to Save Members Money The
Agri-Business Council of Oregon (ABC) is proud to announce that on July 1, it’s
already successful workers’ compensation discount through SAIF will dramatically
improve. The discount for qualifying members will make a 5% jump, going from 8
to 13%. Though ABC and SAIF have worked together since 2001 to offer one of
the best workers' compensation insurance programs within Oregon agriculture, the
impending rate adjustment came as a pleasant surprise to the organization. “The
ABC Safety Committee works hard to promote a safe work environment within
agriculture,” says Geoff Horning, ABC Executive Director. “A safe work
environment is our primary concern, but an added benefit of a safe work
environment is a substantial savings in workers’ comp premiums for those
organizations that practice safety first.”
To aid members in implementing safe practices to qualify for the discount,
the Council has developed a special safety committee consisting of SAIF
professionals, ABC staff and member operators to monitor the group's
performance. The committee meets monthly to address loss trends, analyze claims
issues and identify loss prevention needs for the group's members. The committee
recently applied for and was awarded a grant from Oregon Occupational Safety &
Health Division (OR-OSHA) to create a bilingual DVD on agricultural safety,
which is currently in production and is scheduled to be completed and
distributed to all ABC members by Labor Day, just prior to National Ag Safety
Week. In addition, the Council has teamed up with Risk Management Resources to
anticipate common safety hazards in agricultural operations and address them in
regular articles in the ABC member magazine, Ag Link. The articles are also
posted on the Council’s website, www.aglink.org, which also lists additional
safety resources including materials in the ABC library that members can check
out at no charge. Those interested in joining the group discount plan should
contact the ABC office at 503-241-1487 or
info@aglink.org.
